The Salvation Army is an integral part of Christian Church.  In its creed,  The Salvation Army is presenting God’s willing to save humankind. For that reason the purpose of the Salvation Army is to spread the salvation of God to all humankind and serve those who are in needs. This service is conducting without any discrimination through programs of social, education, medical, religious, emergency and community development.

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 by William Booth at London (England). It was began with the Christian Mission, but later on the name was change to the Salvation Army in 1878 which followed by implementing military type as organization system. Ever since, the Salvation Army was using military symbols, such as, uniform, flag, banner, rank system, order and regulation. The changes were made with the background of thought that in this world Christians are charging with the spiritual war with unseen power that is the power of evil.

Evangelical and social ministry of the Salvation Army has been made under the authority of the General, as the international leader of the Salvation Army. Those ministries were implementing by officers, soldiers and volunteers of the Salvation Army.
Since the starting of this movement, the Salvation Army was considering that men and women are equal. In following this attitude, in the ministry, men and women are appointed based on their gift, capacity and capability.

Soldiers of the Salvation Army upholds the discipline and their Christian moral in a high standard, maintaining the righteousness, unconditional love, good citizenship, absence of gambling, smoking, tobacco, alcohol and drugs.

Nowadays, the Salvation Army is serving in 124 countries including Indonesia. Where ever it is presence, the Salvation Army is always open to be in a partnership with government, Christian bodies, and non governmental organizations and with everyone. We are oriented to the humanity and the glory of God.

Bala Keselamatan adalah bagian integral dari Gereja Kristen, dimana Kristus Yesus sebagai kepala Gereja. Doktrin yang dipercayainya tidak berbeda dengan Gereja Kristen pada umumnya. Dalam pengakuan imannya, Bala Keselamatan menjelaskan tentang Tuhan yang berkehendak menyelamatkan manusia. Sebab itu, maksud dan tujuan Bala Keselamatan didirikan adalah menyebarluaskan keselamatan Allah kepada semua orang dan melayani sesama yang membutuhkan pertolongan. Pelayanan yang tanpa pamrih dan tanpa diskriminasi tersebut dilakukan melalui program-program pelayanan, sosial, pendidikan, kesehatan, tanggap darurat bencana dan lain-lainnya.

Bala Keselamatan didirikan diLondonpada tahun 1865 oleh William Booth. Pada awalnya bernama Misi Kristen, namun pada tahun 1878 berganti nama Bala Keselamatan. Sistem organisasinya mengadopsi pola kemiliteran, sehingga digunakan simbol-simbol kemiliteran seperti pakaian seragam, bendera, panji-panji, kepangkatan, perintah dan aturan organisasi. Sistem ini dilandaskan pada pemikiran bahwa hidup orang Kristen itu layaknya orang yang sedang melakukan perang rohani melawan musuh yang tidak kelihatan tetapi nyata kekuatannya, yaitu kuasa-kuasa kegelapan.

Pelayanan Bala Keselamatan dilaksanakan atas otoritas Jenderal, pemimpin Bala Keselamatan sedunia. Para Opsir, Prajurit dan para relawan Bala Keselamatan, baik itu wanita dan pria yang memiliki kedudukan  sama ditugaskan sesuai dengan karunia, kecakapan dan kemampuannya.

Warga Bala Keselamatan senantiasa menjaga nilai-nilai kedisiplinan hidup dan standar moral Kristen yang tinggi, hidup benar, mengasihi sesama tanpa pamrih, menjadi warga negara yang baik, tidak mengisap rokok atau menggunakan tembakau, tidak menggunakan alkohol dan obat-obat terlarang.

Bala Keselamatan saat ini melayani di 124 negara termasuk Indonesia dan selalu membuka diri untuk bekerjasama dengan pemerintah, badan-badan Kristen, lembaga-lembaga sosial kemasyarakatan dan semua orang demi kepentingan manusia dan kemuliaan Tuhan.
